Abstract

In a process for the treatment of cast iron prior to tinning, and in order that a good continuous tin coating may be obtained, the cast iron article is immersed in a bath of fused zinc chloride and sodium chloride, preferably 82 per cent. zinc chloride and 18 per cent. sodium chloride at a temperature of 300-300 DEG C. The article may then be immediately dipped in the tinning bath. In an alternative method the article after suitable mechanical treatments may be submitted to the treatment described in Specification 581,604 in addition to the treatment with fused chlorides.
