Abstract

An invisible protective coating is formed on the surface of silver or silver alloys by treating with a solution containing chromic acid. Cuprammonium chloride, a persulphate, or both of these substances may be added to the solution. The metal is preferably first degreased and then immersed in the solution, washed, and dried.
