Cementation.-In a process for hardening metal articles by nitrogenization, the parts of the articles not to be treated are provided with a coating of a metal, other than nickel, e.g. tin, or an alloy, other than a nickel alloy, e.g. a tin alloy. The coated parts may also be provided with a coating of water glass and powdered aluminium. Before nitrogenization, the whole article or the turned parts may be dipped in a bath of nitrate of potassium or sodium heated to about 400‹ C. Specification 174,580 is referred to.
