Abstract

Zinc- and aluminium-surfaced articles are treated with a solution of chromic acid in pure water and a film of such solution is dried thereon. The solution may also contain a non-ionic wetting agent such as a polyether alcohol, and may be applied by immersion, spraying or roller coating at a temperature of 150 DEG -200 DEG F. and a concentration of 0,5-5 per cent: excess may be removed by squeegee. Prior to treatment, the surfaces should be cleaned, preferably in a sodium cyanide bath. The treatment may be included in the process set forth in Specification 453,803.
