Abstract

1497559 Electro-phoretic coating for steel ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd 16 Aug 1976 [29 Aug 1975] 35675/75 Addition to 1341899 Heading C7B A steel part is electro-phoretically coated with an aqueous mixture of Al powder and an organic e.g. acrylic) resin, heated, e.g. first at 150‹C, then at 560‹C, to drive off the resin, then the coating is impregnated with a mixture comprising a high temperature (> 600‹C) resistant material, e.g. aluminium ortho-phosphate or potassium silicate, and a source of chromate ions e.g. CrO 3 . The impregnated coating may be stoved at 150‹C and further heated at 550‹C to fuse the coating.
