Abstract

577,253. Tuyeres. REECE, H. A. April 25, 1944, No. 7689. [Class 51 (i)] Tuyeres for cupolas and the like comprising a bottom plate 16, end plates 17 and removable top plate 18 are provided with means for controlling the supply of air from the wind box to the furnace consisting of pivoted vanes 22, 23 extending into the tuyere and serving to regulate the size of the inlet to the tuyere without materially affecting the size of the outlet. The vanes are pivoted at 25 and co-operate with plates 19 in the tuyere opening to provide two diverging air passages the inlets of which are adjustable. One means for adjusting the vanes consists of a Y-shape rod 36 engaging with rings 35 on the ends of the vanes. By raising and lowering the rod 36 the vanes are opened or closed. The rod 36 is provided with an indicator 39 having notches for receiving a pointer 40. The vanes may be operated by a rotary slotted cam or by levers.
