Abstract
953,871. Cupola furnaces. CARBORUNDUM CO. Ltd. Sept. 29, 1960 [Oct. 9, 1959], No. 34344/59. Heading F4B. A cupola furnace is provided with an annular chamber c between a silicon carbide refractory lining a and a body b, air entering said chamber at or below the level of the tuyeres f and passing from the top of the chamber via external ducts g to the tuyeres. The air enters the chamber via duct e, wind belt d and passages d1, and leaves via passages i and wind belt h, located just above the level of the furnace doors, to the ducts g. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the air from the top of the chamber passes inwardly to a collecting box on the furnace axis and thence via a single duct to the wind belt h. Specifications 288,072 and 589,101 are referred to.
