The adjustable blast furnace throat-armour of the parent Specification is modified by having alternate overlapping segments 2, 3 formed of smooth and stepped constructions respectively, so that a substantially smooth cylindrical inner surface to the throat-armour is provided, when the throat armour is set at its minimum diameter.
