576,438. Pulverulent and gaseous fuel burners. WELLMAN SMITH OWEN ENGINEERING CORPORATION, Ltd., SMITH, S., SMITH, C. H., and ASPLAND, R. C. D. May 12, 1944, Nos. 9077/44 and 8000/45. [Class 75 (i)] A sleeve 10 is adjustable in the burner body 1 by rocking arms 16 to vary the secondary air issuing around a pulverized or gaseous fuel nozzle 4, either the inwardly directed end 7 of the nozzle 4 or the inwardly directed end 12 of the sleeve 10 being thickened and formed with inclined passages 9 so that a part or the whole of the air is caused to swirl. The passages 9 may be wider and less deep at their rear ends than their front ends and are preferably tangential to a cylinder coaxial with the nozzle 4. A stop 11 limits the rearward movement of the sleeve. Specification 219,076, [Class 75 (i)], is referred to.
