Abstract

571,533. Surface gauges. CARTER, J. E., and HOLCOMBE, P. A. April 18, 1944, No. 6248/43. [Class 106 (ii)] A direct reading dial gauge for measurement of internal and external dimensions comprises a number of locating feelers 1, 2, 4 and a measuring feeler 3 pivotally mounted at 7 in lugs c on the top of a casing a and extending into the interior of the casing, the extensions 5 of the locating feelers being half the length of the feelers 1, 2, 4, while the extension 6 of the measuring feeler is equal to the length of the measuring feeler 3. Bias springs are associated with the pivots tending to close the locating feelers 1, 2, 4 and open the measuring feeler 3. The locating feelers are adjusted by a slidable coned ring 10 which contacts balls e in the extensions 5 while adjustment of the measuring feeler 3 is effected by a wedge-shape member 12 secured to the ring 10 and adapted to engage the extension 6 of the feeler 3. Movement of the extension 6 is communicated to the stem 20 of the dial gauge 18.
