Abstract

571,402. Vehicle lamps. DAPONTE, D. Jan 19, 1944, No. 1033. [Classes 75 (iii) and 75 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] To illuminate the path of a vehicle on a road bend the steering wheel W operates a switch S to complete the circuit to one of two lamp bulbs A, B, arranged with reflectors set at 45 degrees to the centre line of the vehicle in a common casing C. The casing C carries a vertical trunnion G secured by a nut i and spring I to a clip E secured to the vehicle bumper. The switch S comprises three fixed sectors s and a movable segmental contact L which when displaced from its central position connects one sector s connected to the battery to one of the other sectors connected to the bulbs A, B respectively. The sectors s are mounted on insulators on the inner surface of a cover P of a metal casing S' enclosing the segmental contact L which has upturned ends l and is secured to a rotatable spindle M having a crank arm m provided with holes for alternative attachment by a link m' to the steering wheel drop arm. A master switch M allows the circuit to the lamp bulbs A, B to be closed separately or simultaneously independently of the steering switch S.
