Abstract
330,892. Meynell, J. F. March 13, 1929. Road-traffic signals on vehicles. - A spot-light A<1> is provided with a second lamp bulb A<2> mounted back to back with the bulb A for illuminating arrow-shaped direction-indicating apertures (not shown) provided in the sides of the lamp casing. The lamp is pivotally mounted in a forked bracket B rotatable on a sleeve C projecting through the roof D of a motor vehicle and a tube E extending through the sleeve is connected by a slot a<1> to a pin a in the lamp and by slots e to a pin b in the bracket so that the lamp is swivelled on rotating, and tilted on sliding, the tube E in the sleeve C bv means of a hand-wheel E<1>. The tube E may be clamped in position hy a screw E<2> or a quick-release device. The arms of the bracket B are provided with a series of holes b<2> to allow for adjusting the height of the lamp. As shown spring contacts G<2> normally engage oppositely-disposed contact strips G on the tube E to complete the circuit of the bulb A and, on rotating the tube E, engage intermediate strips G<1> thereby breaking the circuit of the bulb A and closing the circuit of the bulb A<2>. Alternatively, separate, switches for the bulbs may be provided on the hand-wheel or elsewhere within the vehicle.
