Abstract
282,501. Anti-Glare, Ltd., and Harrison, L. Sept. 23, 1926. Lighting, systems of; mounting electric lamps in lanterns; vehicle lamps.-A combined road illuminating and signalling device for vehicles comprises a casing 1 containing two sources of illumination, one source serving to illuminate the number plate through a window 6, and a red light 5 pointing to the rear while the other source 7 gives a beam of light illuminating the road on theoff side of the vehicle, the direction of this beam being variable. The lamp 7 is preferably controlled by a switch operated by an anti-dazzle device for the head lamps. The lamp casing 1 is divided by a partition 2 into two compartments 3, 4 the compartment 3 containing the usual red rear light 5 and window 6 either in the side as shown or in the bottom, for illuminating the number plate. In the compartment 4 the lamp 7 is mounted on its reflector 8 which is adjustably supported by coil springs 9 and felt pads 10, the springs being positioned on a casing 11. Adjustment of the reflector is accomplished by three screws 12 engaging the rim of the reflector and rotatably mounted on the lamp casing 1 around the glass 13. A shield 14 pivoted to the casing at 15 is used to cause the side beam to shine downwards when the lamp is fitted high up on a vehicle. A signalling device such as a direction indicator 16 may be combined with the lamp.
