Abstract

220,500. Hedley, W. J. Nov. 10, 1923. Motor-vehicle headlamps; lighting systems of.-Vehicle headlamps are provided with a second lamp adapted to project light laterally to the offside of the vehicle and a two-way switch and a resistance is included in the supply circuit so connected that when approaching an oncoming vehicle, the driver may dim the headlamp and switch on the side lamp. The headlamp comprises a casing 1, reflector 2 and a lamp-holder 9 secured in position by nuts 12. Both lamps are connected to a source of current 13 through a switch comprising contacts 15, 19, 22, 23. A resistance 24 connecting the contacts 19, 23, and a metal bridge piece 17 carried by the cover. The bridge piece 17 is adapted to be rotated about the centre contact 15 so as, in one position, to connect the contacts 15, 19, the headlamp being then fully illuminated, and in the alternative, position to connect the contacts 15, 22, 23, thus dimming the headlamp and illuminating the side lamp. Specifications 148,935 and 201,436 are referred to.
