Abstract

571,099. Latches. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd., and SPEED, E. Nov. 26, 1943, No. 19747. [Class 44] A latch for a motor vehicle door has a latch bolt that travels obliquely across the face of the striking plate. The latch bolt 11 is attached to a plate 12 having inclined slots 15, 16 and guided by pins 17, 18. The latch is operated by either of the followers 25, 33 and a projection 26 on the follower 25 can be moved to engage a projection 35 to block the follower 33. A spring 29 can engage either of the depressions 27, 28 on the follower 25 to prevent inadvertent movement. To accommodate the lateral movement of the latch bolt 11, the opening in the latch case is widened and a cover plate 41 is attached to the latch to fill the space when the latch bolt is extended.
