Class 44 A door latch mechanism for latching a motor vehicle door to a vehicle body comprises a latch member 28 adapted to be carried by the vehicle door, a keeper member 14 adapted to be carried by the vehicle body, the latch member 28 and the keeper member 14 having toothed elements 27, 18 which interengage when the vehicle door is closed, and a part carried by one of the members overlapping a tooth on the other of the members when the door is closed to limit relative movement between the latch and keeper members in a direction longitudinally of the vehicle. As shown, the overlapping part is constituted by a flange 33 integrally formed at the outer side of the member 28 and projects into a clearance space 19 between the teeth 18 and a body pillar 22. A nylon wedge 16, slidably carried by the keeper member 14 engages a sheet metal dovetail 23 secured to the vehicle door.
