Abstract

567,798. Two-part couplings. SMART & BROWN (ENGINEERS), Ltd., and SPIVEY, W. H. Jan. 18, 1943, No. 894. [Class 38 (i)] A plug contact 2 for mounting in an insulating body 7 is formed with compressible detents 3 associated with stop means 5 so that the contact after the lead is attached thereto can be pushed into position in a hole 7a in the body 7 until the stop means abuts on the body when the detents will expand into locking engagement with the body. The detents are preferably formed by pressing out portions from a sheet metal blank which is rolled to form the plug, the resilience being obtained by slotting the plug on opposite sides between the detents. Cavities for the detents are formed by the co-operation of projections 8 on the upper surface and recesses 10 in the undersurface of two similar body members 7. Instead of a channel-shaped recess 6 for soldering the lead., interengaging claws may be formed along its edges to be bent down to grip the lead. The pin may be formed from a solid rod fitted into a tubular sheath.
