[Class 38 (i)] A socket element comprises a rectangular receiving part 1, Fig. 2, wherein one side is constituted by plate 2 having limited sliding movement, and a limb 10 bent outwardly at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the part 1 having a hole therein in which is riveted a D-shaped terminal socket 13. A helical spring 25 passing through a hole 26 in the rear wall 3 of part 1 bears on the terminal 13 and on the plate 2 to urge the latter into contact with a plug pin when inserted in the socket. Bentover lugs at the top and bottom of the plate retain the latter in the socket and the element is mounted on a base by passing a lug 16 at the foot of the wall 3 through a hole therein and riveting said lug over. The socket may be formed from a sheet metal blank, as above, or may be extruded in one piece, Fig. 10, to form a rectangular socket 31 and a terminal 32, the movable plate 35 being similar to the plate 2 above. The element may be mounted on a base by means of a bolt engaging a threaded hole 40 in the lower face thereof. In a further modification, Fig. 13 (not shown), the plate is positioned on the side of the rectangular socket part remote from that bearing the terminal. The plate may be retained in the socket by ears provided intermediate its length sliding in slots in the walls of said socket. Also the spring may comprise a U-shaped strip.
