Abstract

615,692. Two-part couplings; ceiling roses. MASON, O. Aug. 6, 1946, No. 23338. [Class 38 (i)] In an electrical connector, e.g. a ceiling rose, comprising two contact supporting parts 11 and 13, the fixed part 11 is formed with an undercut groove 12, and the lower detachable part 13 is adapted to slide into the groove. The upper fixed part 11 may consist of two portions 14 and 15, the portion 14 being provided with spring-biassed plunger terminals 16 and the portion 15 being provided with the undercut groove. The terminals 16 project through apertures 17 in the grooved portion for cooperation with terminals 22 in the detachable sliding part 13. The lower fixed portion 15 is provided with three apertures 34 in line with apertures 30 in the upper fixed portion 14, whereby the lower portion may be secured to the upper portion and to the ceiling. The undercut groove 12 in the portion 15 is open at one end and terminated at the other by a thin wall 35 formed integrally with the portion 15. The open end of the groove is provided with a plate 36 of substantially the same shape as the cross-sectional shape of the groove 12, but the edges 51 of the plate corresponding with the inclined side of the groove project slightly above the level thereof to maintain the sliding part in position. The sliding part 13 has a flat upper surface 38 and bevelled sides 39, while the lower surface is provided with an externally screw-threaded circular spigot 41, containing terminals 43 which extend through the sliding part 13 so as to co-operate with the terminals 16. The centre part of the upper surface of the sliding part is inclined at one end 50 so that when the sliding part is inserted into the groove the downwardly projecting spring plungers 28 of the upper terminals 16 ride up the incline and bear resiliently against the upper contact ends 22 of the terminals 43, when the sliding part is in position. In a modification the detachable part of the connector may be grooved and the fixed part provided with tongues.
