Abstract

911,270. Two-part couplings. BURNDY CORPORATION. March 6, 1961 [March 11, 1960], No. 7999/61. Class 38 (1). A contact assembly for a connector comprises a contact 1 including two external shoulders 8a, 8b, on either side of a portion 8 of reduced diameter on which is disposed a C- shaped retention spring 11, of shorter length than portion 8 and having a sloping centre portion forming an upstanding tab 12 whereby, on insertion of the connector into a mounting hole 13 from the right in the Figure, the spring 11 cants on portion 8 and tab 12 is depressed. After insertion tip 12a of tab 12 snaps up above the level of hole 13 and abuts shoulder 15 thereof to prevent removal, while ridge 5 of the connector abuts shoulder 14 to prevent further insertion. As shown, the contact is a socket having a bore 2 adapted to receive a pin contact which is pressed against the socket wall by contact spring 9, disposed on a further portion 6 of reduced diameter, a central depression 10 of spring 9 projecting through a window 7 into the bore 2. Bore 3 is adapted to receive a conductor which is secured therein e.g. by crimping.
