Abstract

571,900. Two-part couplings. ARNOLD, C. L., DOWSETT, R. W., and M.K. ELECTRIC, Ltd. Dec. 13, 1943, No. 20866. [Class 38 (i)] A socket contact comprises a tubular body encircled by a spring clip carrying a member resiliently urged inwardly through a longitudinal slot in the body so as to be wholly displaced into the slot when engaged by the plug. In one type, Fig. 1, the clip 3 has an integral tongue 3a extending along a slot 2 longitudinally milled from the entry end of the body. A ring 5 held by projections 6 prevents overexpansion on inserting the plug 4. In an alternative form, Fig. 5, the member 3b is separate from but encircles the clip 3 which is located in a shallow circumferential groove 7. Fig. 8 shows a further form in which the spring tongue 3a is bent back on itself to form a loop 3c, the slot 2 only extending to the line 1a.
