Abstract
567,355. Stamping tubes to form tag ends. WELLMAN SEAVER ROLLING MILL CO., Ltd., and SMITH, S. Sept. 14, 1943, No. 15079. [Class 83 (iv)] The ends of tubes are collapsed to form tags for threading through drawing dies by a fluidoperated press of the contracting-die type. Dies 12, Fig. 1, carried by three or more hydraulic rams 5 equi-spaced circumferentially, have projections 17 to cause initial collapse of the tube and have interengaging surfaces 15, Fig. 6, to ensure that all the rams move at the same rate. The stroke is determined by the ends 8 of cup-shaped members, carried by tail rods 6 of the rams, contacting the ends of the cylinders. The cups also house retracting springs 9. The bracket supporting the cylinder frame has a central work-supporting bush. Fig. 7 shows a modified form of die engaging at 19 for contraction control.
