[Also in Division F2] In a metal forming press 110, comprising a lower trimming die 122 which is fixed to a shoe 120 mounted, with a bolster 116, in a bed 112 and which mates with an upper die 124, an upper die shoe 126, which carries a punch 128 and is secured to a ram 118 reciprocable vertically by conventional mechanical or hydraulic means, is connected to the upper die 124 by means of two hydro-pneumatic shock-absorbers (see Division F2) the cylinders 12 of which are connected to the shoe and the piston-rods 26 to the die 124. In a modification, Fig. 5, the upper die 136 is bolted directly on to the ram 118, hydro-pneumatic shock-absorbers 12, 26 being connected between a yieldingly mounted workpiece 138 mounted around the lower die 134 and the lower shoe 132. The shockabsorber on the left-hand side of Fig. 5 has its cylinder 12 mounted in the bolster 116, the piston 26 projecting through a bore in the lower die shoe 132.
