Abstract

1472860 Forging; making scaffold tubes; necking STEVENS & BULLIVANT Ltd 2 Dec 1974 [14 Dec 1973] 58400/73 Headings B3H B3A and B3Q A square shoulder is formed on the external surface of a tube by cold working the pipe to form a taper 14 followed by hot working by an axially advanced die 18 driven by a flywheel driven crank. The cold working is preferably rotary swaging. The tube 1 is made of mild steel and used as a scaffold tube, the shoulder limiting the telescopic engagement. The die 18 is mounted for axial movement in a press in which the tube blank 10 is clamped.
