Abstract
1461317 Shaping superplastic &c metal sheet T I SUPERFORM Ltd 24 Dec 1975 [24 Sept 1974] 41443/74 Heading B3Q Superplastic &c. metal sheet 1 peripherally clamped 2, 3 in a plane in pre-formed against a die 11 by differential pressure, the pre-form being then formed against a male die 6, Fig. 4, by reversing the pressure conditions. The preform die 11 may be retracted and the male die 6 advanced before the differential air pressure is reversed, and the die 6 may continue to advance relatively after contact with the sheet which may be made before or immediately after pressure reversal. The pre-form die (11<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 6 (not shown), may be a movable or stationary flat plate, possibly with integral or separate lateral guides (2<SP>1</SP>) and projections (12). The air pressure and speed of die-movement may be varied during the cycle. The process will normally be carried out at an elevated temperature.
