Abstract

1288882 Sheet forming PETRO-TEX CHEMICAL CORP 6 Jan 1970 [7 Jan 1969] 668/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division C3] A process for forming articles of polybutene-1 or composition thereof comprises forcing together a solid body of polybutene-1 or composition thereof in which the polybutene-1 is present in substantially tetragonal crystalline form and a moulding or deforming surface, and applying sufficient force at 0‹ to 45‹ C. to cause deformation of the body. The force may be applied by gas pressure or by a stamping or moulding press, and the process used to form closures, caps and thin-walled articles. Polybutene sheet (2) may be clamped in mould (1) and nitrogen gas introduced through inlet (6) into chamber (5) whereby the polybutene is deformed into cavity (4) provided with ducts (8) to allow escape of gas.
