Abstract
1,096,846. Forging. ZAVOD "GOMSELMASH." March 25, 1965, No. 12650/65. Heading B3H. A profiled article 3, particularly a gear or spur wheel, is made by piercing a blank, upsetting and pressing it radially by forces applied to the blank in at least three directions. A hot or cold blank, which may be cast or stamped and of solid or hollow form, is placed on a lower die 2, upset by an upper die 1, pierced by a mandrel 7 and pressed radially inwardly to form external teeth 10, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), by radially-acting tools 6 carried by the upper die. The latter is mounted on a yoke 20 secured to the press platen 17 by swivel clamps 25. Guide pillars 19 ensure alignment of the upper and lower dies. Radial tools 6 have detachable tooth-forming tips 9, Figs. 10, 11 (not shown), and are pressed inwardly by their outer bevelled ends 14, Fig. 7 (not shown) engaging adjustable stops 15 on the bottom platen 16. Lower die 5 rests on a shock absorber 29 of the hydro-pneumatic type. Provision is made for lubrication of the dies and for cooling in the case of hot working. The mandrel 7 may be of cylindrical, conical or toothed profile. In another embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the radial tools 6 are mounted on the lower die and in a further embodiment, Figs. 1, 3 (not shown), the shock absorber 29 is omitted and the radial tools 6 are operated by transverse slides on the press.
