Abstract

564,588. Cylinder paper making machines. PAPERCRETE, Ltd., and NEWBOULD, M. G. R. Jan. 15, 1943, No. 804. [Class 96] In a cylinder paper-making machine, the pulp web is formed on the sieve 6 at a suction zone 29 having a suction pipe 39, it then passes about a suction zone 26 whilst it is compressed against the sieve 6 as by an impermeable travelling band 50, e.g. of rubber,. and after passing over a further suction zone 27 the web is couched, a cylinder compartment 28 being at atmospheric or higher pressure. The cylinder sieve 6 and travelling band 50 may be corrugated for the production of longitudinally corrugated material, the band 50 being elastic and its supporting roller 49 shaped to minimize shearing action on the pulp web. For forming shaped products, e.g. rebated sheet as at A in the drawing, an intermediate endless band 67 is used travelling about sparred drums 77 which also agitate the pulp in the vat, the band 67 having openings allowing thickened parts to be formed in the web. The pulp may contain pitch &c. which is subsequently melted to permeate the sheets.
