Abstract

558,840. Typewriters. FANFOLD, Ltd., MURRAY, S. M., and ANDREWS, R. W. Sept. 28, 1942, No. 13585. Addition to 477,119. [Class 1000 (iv)] In a web-feeding arrangement for typewriters and like machines wherein a frame mounted at the rear of the platen 13 supports front and rear shafts carrying endless belts or chains having pins engaging perforations in the web, the shafts are driven from the platen in such a way that the pins advance at a speed differing from the peripheral speed of the platen. The platen shaft carries a gear wheel 18, Fig. 1, in mesh with a wheel 19 on shaft 21 which also carries wheel 20. Wheels 19, 20 are engaged by either wheel 24 or 22 carried by a plate 25, wheel 24 being coupled to a wheel 23 which with wheel 22 is in mesh with a wheel 27 driving wheel 28 on a shaft 29 coupled to the shaft driving the belts or chains. Plate 25 is rocked about the shaft 26 carrying wheel 27 to produce one of the two possible speeds, the plate being moved and locked by bolt 32, 34. One of the speeds may be the same as that of the platen, and more than two speeds may be provided. Shaft 29 may be coupled to a shaft 52, Fig. 4, carrying pin-wheels 65 for belts 57 which run loosely on shaft 53 and advance web 58 of normal width. Shafts 52, 53 are geared together to run at different speeds and shaft 53 carries a pin-wheel 69 for belts 55 which run loosely on shaft 52 and advance web 61 of less than normal width. In the example given web 61 is advanced at half the speed of web 58.
