Abstract

954,255. Typewriters. ALACRA Ltd. Sept. 27, 1962 [Sept. 28, 1961], No. 34904/61. Heading B6F. [Also in Division F2] A mechanical relay, for use with tabulating machinery feeding stationary webs step-by-step, comprises an input gear 16a, Fig. 3, driven from the tabulating machinery and meshing a gear 28 thus rotated on a fixed axle 23 so that cam teeth 34 slide a driven gear 30 leftwards into clutching engagement with a gear 26 continuously rotated by an electric motor, the driven gear meshing an output gear 16b. The relay, together with the electric motor 24, Fig. 1, is mounted in an attachment 20 secured to a tabulating machine similar to that described in Specification 848,793 [Group XVI]. In operation, when the machine platen 10, Fig. 1, is stationary, the motor 24 and the gear 26 run continuously, but the gears 16a, 28 do not turn. When feeding of stationery is required, the platen 10 rotates and drives through gears 14, 15 to the gear 16a, the gear 30 is slidden into clutching engagement with the gear 30, and the electric motor 24 drives through the gear 16b to shafts 11, 12 carrying web-feeding pin wheels 11a.
