326,838. Linotype & Machinery, Ltd., Dowson, R., and Taylor, H. B. Dec. 21, 1928. Delivery apparatus. -In sheet-delivering mechanism for rotary machines of the type in which the sheet is taken from the impression-cylinder by chaincarried grippers, the chains are driven at the normal speed during the take-off of the sheets, this normal speed being slightly less than the peripheral speed of the impression-cylinder so that the danger of dragging the sheet and so smudging the impression is obviated. The speed of the chains is decreased to enable the sheet to be deposited, and is then increased to normal again. As shown, the impression-cylinder shaft carries an elliptical gear-wheel 7 meshing with a corresponding gearwheel 8 rotatable, with a concentric gear-wheel 9, on a fixed shaft 10. The wheel 9 drives, through differential gearing 11, 12, 16, 18, a gearwheel 19 on the shaft of the sprocket wheel 5 of the gripper-chains 3. The shafts 13, 17, on which the wheels 11 and 12, and 16 respectively are mounted, are carried by an arm 14 pivoted on the shaft 10 and under the control of a cam 15 on the impression-cylinder shaft.
