Abstract
1,215,194. Printing machines. CAMERON MACHINE CO. 31 May, 1968 [30 June, 1967], No. 26226/68. Heading B6C. In a machine for producing books a web 18, Fig. 1, of paper is printed on one face by an endless band printing surface 26 before passing through a drying oven 32, turning bar arrangements 36, 38, a further endless band printing surface 94 which prints on the other face of the web, a further drying oven 44 and web cutting and folding devices 52, 54. Each endless band printing surface comprises a band of pre-stretched plastics material 94, Fig. 3, to which rubber relief plates 92 are bonded by a suitable laminating adhesive. Each band is also mounted around idler rollers 84, 86, Fig. 2, and a roller 82 movable for band tensioning purposes and for accommodating bands of various sizes. Each band is presented for contact with an impression cylinder 40 by a free wheel supporting cylinder 80 upon the axle of which are mounted driven sprockets 100 for positively driving the band independently of the supporting cylinder. In order to accelerate and decelerate the latter cylinder in association with the moving band an adjustable clutch 132, Fig. 4, is provided between the cylinder and the driven sprockets 100. The impression cylinder 40 is mounted in eccentric bearings 112 so that it may be swung relative to the cylinder 80. The machine is driven by a motor 22 directly coupled to the sprocket wheels 100, web roller 20 and rotary machine elements 60, 68.
