Abstract

1,154,756. Printing-apparatus. BOWATER PACKAGING Ltd. 1 Nov., 1967 [2 May, 1967], No. 20271/67. Heading B6C. A machine suitable for printing on planar or corrugated fibrous sheets comprises a perforated endless belt 1 adapted to feed the sheets in succession past a printing cylinder 15, a suction box 11 located beneath substantially the entire upper run of the belt and operated so that the sheets are retained in firm contact with the upper run of the belt, and a rigid support in the form of longitudinal slats 12 and a transverse bar 33 also located beneath the upper run and designed to maintain said run in predetermined spaced relation with the member 15. The member 15 may be a cylinder, inked by rollers 19, 21, and may print by offset, lithographic, letterpress or intaglio processes. Three cylinders may be used to print in three colours. A common motor 22 drives the belt and the cylinder 15, via the roller 19. The peripheral speed of the cylinder is the same as the linear speed of the belt.
