Abstract

441,557. Paper - folding machines. MILLER, F. A., and MILLER, P. S., Hitchin Road, Luton, Bedfordshire. July 25, 1934, No. 21784. [Class 100 (i)] In a paper-folding machine employing six fold-rolls 1 ... 6 arranged to co-operate with four buckling-plates 10 ... 13, the first pair of fold-rolls 1, 2 are adapted to be swung out of operative position so as to allow the sheets to be fed directly to the second pair of rolls 3, 4. For this purpose the rolls 1, 2 are carried by spring-pressed levers 7 which, when the spring-devices 14 are released, can be pivoted away from the remaining rolls. Suitable sets of guides 15 and smoothing plates 25 are mounted on parts 26, 23 respectively for directing the sheets to the fold - rolls 1, 2 or 3, 4. The rolls 4, 5, 6 are also mounted on spring-pressed levers 7, but the roller 3 is fixed and serves as a driving roll. One or more of the buckling plates may be rendered inoperative by means of deflectors.
