Abstract
326,673. Hoe & Co., Ltd., R., (Hoe & Co., Inc., R.). March 26, 1929. Folding paper. - In mechanism for folding paper-sheets in which a blade 9 on a cylinder 6 tucks the sheet between rollers 10, 11, means are provided for simultaneously adjusting the blade and the rollers with respect to the cylinder. The blade 9 is operated by means of internal gears 17 engaging gears 18 on the shaft thereof. In order to. vary the point at which the blade 9 becomes operative relatively to the cylinder 6 and therefore to the sheet carried thereby, the gears 17 are rotatably mounted in rings 14 fixed to the cylinder and are adjusted simultaneously at both ends of the cylinder by means of a hand-operated shaft 28 coupled by bevel-gearing 26 to vertical screwed spindles 24 engaging swivelling nuts 23 mounted on brackets 21 fixed to the gears 17. Brackets 35, 36 fixed to the gears 17 carry the usual spring mountings 38, 39 for the roller-shafts 42, 43 so that the rollers 10, 11 are adjusted simultaneously with the blade 9. The mountings 38, 39 are slidable on the brackets 35, 36 and can be adjusted towards or away from one another simultaneously at both ends by means of right-and-left-handed screwed spindles 65 geared to a hand-operated shaft 68 by bevel-wheels 66, 67. The rollers 10, 11 are driven by mechanism which allows them to move apart without affecting the drive and consists of spindles 58. 61 having gears 57, 56 thereon engaging gears 60, 63 on the roller-shafts 42, 43 respectively, the spindle 61 being driven from the cylinder 6 by gears 52, 54 and coupled to the spindle 58 by gears 62, 59.
