Abstract

385,107. Folding paper or other material. TIMSON, A. R., Perfecta Works, Catesby Street, Kettering. Dec. 17, 1931, No. 34955. [Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii).] In apparatus for zig-zag folding continuous lengths of paper or other material in which the material p fed by rollers 9 is gripped on alternate sides by jaws 21 and blades 22 on coacting rotary members 11, a device engaging the web is provided between the feed-rollers and the folding apparatus which is adapted to yield as the folding elements 21, 22 engage the material so as to prevent undue strain on the material. In one form, a roller carried in ball bearings on a spring-pressed or gravity controlled lever engages the material p, but in the form shown in Fig. 3, rollers 25 engage each side of the material and are carried by a lever 24 freely pivoted on the shaft 31. A two-armed lever 23 also mounted on the shaft 31 has springs 32 interposed between its extremities and the lever 24 and is oscillated against spring pressure 28a by cams 28 on one rotary member 11 through a link 26, so that the material is deflected away from the blade 22 which is to operate on the material. By providing a second lever 26 operated by cams on the second member 11, the lever 23 may be moved positively in both directions.
