Sheet-separators; pile supports.-Sheets are fed from a fanned out pile which is obtained by advancing the sheets by tapes 27, 26, 17 driven intermittently at equal speeds and passing over rollers 28, 29, 24, 25, 16, 18 which are arranged in pairs of different diameters. The tapes cooperate with feed plates 30, 19, and an extension plate 20 which conducts the sheets to a registering-bar 21, from which the top sheet is taken by an oscillating suction bar 3 connected by links 6 to oscillating arms 4 connected by links 12 to crank pins 11 operated by mutilated gearing from a shaft 7. The bar 3 is guided by slots 2 in the frame 1, and directs the separated sheet to a conveyer roller 23. The sheets are guided by curved guides 38, 39, while passing around the rollers 25, 16. The advance of the tapes is controlled by a contact or feeler arm 40 on a shaft 41, Fig. 1, which is oscillated to and from the front edges of the fanned out pile by means of a cam 13 on the shaft 7 acting on a roller 42 on a lever arm of the shaft 41. The condition of the pile, as the arm 40 returns to the pile. determines the position of a bell-crank lever 46, Fig. 4, which controls the axial movement of a square shaft 55 fitted with a plate 56 having all inclined end which can engage a pin 60 on a sliding pawl 22 adapted to engage a ratchet wheel 49 if the pile needs advancing. The pawl 22 is put into operation only if the pile is to be advanced, and it is put out of action automatically at each oscillation of the oscillating lever 57 by means of a stationary plate 61. A spring bolt engaging recesses in the pawl 22 holds it in its operative or inoperative positions respectively.
