Abstract

377,405. Feeding webs. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and POOL, W. J., Chelmsley, Barley Lane, Hillmorton, near Rugby. July 7, 1931, No. 19575. [Class 100 (i).] In an arrangement for controlling the feed of a web 1 with the aid of mechanism automatically effective to advance or retard the web whereby it is maintained in register with other webs, an independently-operable adjusting-device is provided, comprising a manually-operated shaft 39 and worm 38 mounted in a carrier 37 fixed to a shaft 35 and meshing with a sector 36 loose on the shaft 35. The sector 36 also gears with a worm 40 mounted on a shaft 41 which is automatically rotated in the appropriate direction to maintain the web in register by means such as the photo-sensitive device described in Specification 373,189, which operates to drive the motor 29 and thereby adjust the driving- belt 12 of the feed-roll 3 and also rotate the worm 40. The latter drives the sector 36 and thereby the carrier 37, which is effectively locked thereto by the worm 38, and the shaft 35, to adjust the position of a roller 14 which is mounted on arms 22 carried by the shaft 35 and over which the web is passed, and thus effect a backwards or forwards displacement of the web. Rotation of the hand-member 39 similarly serves to adjust the position of the roller 14 and thus of the web, the sector 36 being effectively locked by the worm 40. Stops 36a on the sector 36 limit the extent of this correction so that a definite residual movement of the roller 14 is always possible by the automatic device.
