Abstract

403,990. Inking-apparatus. SCHLESINGER, A., 23, Spenerstrasse, Berlin. May 6, 1932, No. 13103. [Class 100 (ii).] The inking-apparatus of a printing-press is arranged so that the ink on its way from the duct roller to the distributing- rollers is passed into a number of sets of rubbing-apparatus movable as a unit wherein the ink is thoroughly mixed and heated to increase its fluidity. In one form, the rubbing- apparatus unit is carried by a frame 18, Fig. 1, arranged to rock about a shaft 17 through the action of a cam 25 on the plate cylinder 28. The frame 18 carries two pairs of rollers 38, 39 and 40, 41 arranged so that when one of the rollers 38 or 40 contacts with the duct roller 2, the roller 41 or 39 respectively engages with the distributing-roller 7. The rollers 38-41 are rotated by a common gear-wheel on the shaft 17 driven from the shaft of the roller 7. In a modification, an apparatus for transferring ink from the duct roller to the rollers 38, 40 is interposed between the duct roller and the unit 38-41. The apparatus comprises a roller 50, Fig. 3, mounted on a bell-crank lever 51 rocked by means of a cam 48 on the plate cylinder. The roller 50 is in contact with a second roller 59 carried by the lever 51 and continuously rotated from a shaft 63 which also actuates the distributing-rollers 7, 34. Rotation of the plate cylinder from the position shown first causes the roller 50 to be rocked into contact with the roller 38 due to the action of the low part n<1> of the cam 48. Later the high part h<1> of the cam rocks the lever 51 to cause the roller 50 to engage the intermittently-rotating duct roller 2. The duct roller tends to rotate the roller 50 and so causes a rubbing of the ink between the rollers 50, 59. At this time, the frame 18 is rocked by the cam 25 to bring the roller 39 into contact with the roller 7. Further rotation of the plate cylinder rocks the roller 50 into an intermediate position, due to the action of the part m<1> of the cam 48, in which position the roller 50 engages the roller 40 of the rubbing- apparatus. In a further modification, the roller 50 is in engagement with the roller 59 only in its intermediate position. To increase the rubbing and heating effects, the rollers 50, 59 may be axially shifted relatively to each other, or they may be connected by gearing, arranged to give different peripheral speeds thereto.
