Abstract

721,560. Copying documents. RITZERFELD, W., and RITZERFELD, G. May 2, 1952, No. 11142/52. Class 100 (2). A rotary duplicator for printing text from a master sheet or sheets 2, 3 on a copy sheet, the text being arranged in columns extending in a direction parallel to the axis of a rotatable printing drum 12, is provided with clamp 13 on the drum 12, a cam-controlled impression roller 11 for performing two printing steps during each cycle of operation of the machine, and a device for holding a copy sheet during the interruption of the process between the two steps. Rollers 18, 19 feed copy sheets 20 past a moistening device 31 to the nip of the roller 11 and drum 12. The roller 11 is urged towards the drum 12 as long as a cam follower 22 is in engagement with cam K<SP>1</SP>, cams K<SP>1</SP> and K2, or cams K<SP>1</SP>, K<SP>2</SP> and K<SP>3</SP> mounted on a shaft 17 driven with the drum 12 through gears 14, 15, 16. The cam follower 22 controls the movement of the roller 11 through a lever 27 and toggle arrangement 28, 29, 30. The cams K<SP>2</SP> and K<SP>3</SP> are mounted for axial movement on the shaft 17 so that they may be successively brought into operative alignment with the cam follower 22 so as to define the number of columns to be printed in the first step of the printing operation (Fig. 1). After the roller 11 has been removed from the drum 12 the sheet 30 is held fast while the drum 12 continues to revolve by springs 23 controlled by an arm 24 and a cam 25 on the drum 12. While the printing is interrupted the sheet 20 is separated from the master sheets 2, 3 by a device 26. The second printing is controlled by cams S<SP>1</SP>, S<SP>2</SP> and S<SP>3</SP> co-operating with cam follower 22 and axially displaceable along the shaft 17 similarly to the cams K. The cams S are also jointly rotatably displaceable on the shaft 17 so that the second printing operation may begin at a column subsequent, if desired, to column 3 (Fig. 1). Columns, therefore, which are separated on the master sheets by at least one other column appear on the sheet 20 in immediate juxtaposition.
