Abstract

556,823. Couplings for vehicles. CARRIMORE SIX WHEELERS, Ltd., and HERBERT, W. E. April 23, 1942, No. 5474. [Class 103 (v)] A coupling device, for a tractor b, shown in plan Fig. 2, and a trailer from which a king-pin d depends, comprises a hook g, which is pivotally mounted on a pin r in the tractor and is caused to engage the king- pin d by jaws r and r<SP>12</SP> and to lock the coupling when the tractor is backed up to the trailer so that the king-pin travels along a slot c in a turn-table on the tractor. When the hook q is turned (against the action of a spring 20) by the king-pin d into the position where the hook stem s<SP>1</SP> is in the lowest of the three positions shown it is locked by engagement with a web y carried by a pivoted lever v which is itself locked in position by an auxiliary handle 15 with a hook securing it to the tractor.
