Abstract

586,883. Vehicle couplings. JONES, E. J. -M. Oct. 5, 1944, No. 19090. [Class 103 (v)] A coupling suitable for connecting a tractor to another vehicle comprises a part A bolted to the rear of the tractor at A', provided with a horizontally-flared slot A', and with a transverse hole to receive a locking pin C. A part B has converging sides B<2> terminating in a tongue B<1> adapted to pass through the slot A<3>. A forked end B<3> with registering holes B‹ is adapted to be coupled to the draw-bar of a vehicle. A. pin B<4> on the tongue B' prevents disengagement of the parts A, B. The pin C is pivoted in the forked end of a lever C<3> pivoted to a fixed support C', and biassed:to locking position by a spring C<6>. In use, the tractor carrying the parts A, B is backed towards the vehicle to be coupled, the pin C<3> is withdrawn, and the part B drawn .out to such a position, indicated, e.g., in dotted lines that, it can be coupled to the vehicle. The tractor is then backed until the part B, guided by its sloping sides in the slot A' allows the. pin C to lock the parts together:
