Abstract
623,433. Hinges. BROCKHOUSE & C., Ltd.,O J., and DEAR, A. T. C. Jan. 1, 1947, No. 3. [Class 65 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A ball and socket vehicle coupling comprises an elastic deformable member disposed between the opposed surfaces of the ball and socket members and means for applying pressure to the elastic member to maintain it in close contact with the opposed coupling surfaces to obviate rattle and means for attaching the ball and socket members one to each vehicle, one member being detachably connected to its associated vehicle so that the vehicles can be coupled or uncoupled without separation of the ball and socket members. The socket member 11, attached to the trailer vehicle by the drawbar 12 is provided with a screwed plug 14 which clamps a deformable member 15 between the socket 11 and the ball member 19. The ball is provided with a shank 24 screwed at its lower extremity to engage a rotatable handwheel mounted in a bracket 22 rigidly attached to a tube 21 secured transversely to the rear end of the tractor vehicle. To separate the tractor and trailer vehicles the ball shank 24 is extracted from the bracket 22 by rotation of the handwheel.
