[Class 103 (v)] A coupling between a two-wheeled rear axled trailer and a tractor normally provided with an upper compression strut and with lower draft links for use with agricultural implements, comprises an upper compression strut 14 universally mounted at 13 on the tractor and hinged about a transverse horizontal axis 31 to an upstanding mast 29 rigidly secured to the trailer, and tension links 19 universally jointed at 17 and 21 to the tractor and trailer respectively. As shown, an adaptor comprising rearwardly diverging members 24, 25 secured to an upright member 15 fitting on the tractor rear-axle housing 10 is held in place by the bell-crank 7 associated with the usual lifting means and by the usual drag links 12. This adaptor serves to support the upper compression strut 14 of the hitch and also, by means of the pivotally-mounted transverse draw-bar 17, the tension links 19. The joint 13 is mounted close to the vertical plane through the rear axle and the members 14, 19 proportioned so that their lines of action meet in front of the tractor rear axle. In a modification, Figs. 18-22 (not shown), the mounting 13 for the strut 14 is on a plate bridging the lifting gear 6, 7 and directly over the rear axle. The drag links are held out of the way by a bar fixed to the plate and engaging under the usual lifting links. The draw-bar 17 is then mounted directly below the rear axle. The joint 13 for strut 14 breaks if the thrust in strut 14 is reversed, and the strut may have screw means for altering its length to raise and lower the trailer. Specification 536,882 is referred to.
