Abstract

1,045,553. Tractor-trailer hitches. P. P. RICHARD. Jan. 31, 1964 [Feb. 6, 1963], No. 4304/64. Heading B7T. A tractor and semi-trailer combination, Fig. 1, is provided with an upper hydraulically adjustable connecting rod 4 and a lower rod 5 permitting raising and lowering of the trailer end (see also Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). The rod 4 is rotatable about spindles 6, 7 at one end and about spindles 10, 12 at the other end, and the part 4a is adapted to rotate in the part 4. The rod 5 is universally jointed to the tractor and is connected to the trailer by a forked end. In a modification, either the rod 4 or the rod 5 may be length adjustable, e.g. by the provision of a hinged joint therein, and in Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), the quadrilateral hitch is arranged to readily uncouple a semitrailer for loading.
