[Class 6 (i)] [Also in Group XXXII] A self-supporting hitch for connecting a trailed agricultural appliance to a tractor or the like comprises a system of links carrying a ground-engaging member 14 which supports the hitch while it is being connected to the trailed appliance, but is retracted automatically when the towing vehicle commences to move. In the form shown, the hitch comprises a pair of plates 9 pivoted at their centre to a member 16 which may be secured to the drawn appliance. The front ends of the plates 9 are pivoted to a pair of links 10 and the rear ends to a pair of struts 14. The links 10 are united at their outer ends to a bracket 11 for connection to a tractor draw-plate 12 and the struts 14 are united to a ground-engaging foot 15. A system of pivoted links 18-22 joins the centre of the plate 9 with intermediate points on the struts 14 and links 10. When the appliance is to be connected to a tractor, the foot 15 engages the ground (Fig. 4), both the hitch and the front of the appliance being supported by the struts 14. As the tractor starts to move, after connection, the tightening of the link system raises the foot out of engagement with the ground.
