Abstract

725,339. Couplings for vehicles. MANN, EGERTON & CO., Ltd. March 6, 1953, No. 6341/53. Class 103 (5). A towing connection comprises a tow bar 1 provided with a swivel eye 3 at one end and a resiliently mounted universal joint 4 having holes 15 for attachment of one or more alternative fittings for direct attachment to the towed vehicle. The attachment (Fig. 2) comprises a plate 6 provided with upstanding bosses 7 which engage in holes in the transverse chassis member, the plate being retained in position by cranked straps 8 which engage the upper surface of the chassis member. The attachment (Fig. 4) comprises a pair of arms 17 which retain their relative spacing by means of a lockable extensible bar 18 and which are provided with catch members 24 to engage in the open-ended jacking points on the towed vehicle.
