Abstract

1,140,551. Vehicle hitch assemblies. E. S. GEARY. 11 Jan., 1968 [13 Jan., 1967], No. 2070/67. Heading B7T. A hitch assembly comprises a rigid inverted L-section beam 1 having fixed thereto a towing ball 2, vehicle bumper engaging pads 3 and pairs of bumper engaging hooks 11, 20 fixed on studs 7, 16, which studs pass through plates 6 or boxes 15 mounted on the beam, the ends of the studs opposite the hooks 11, 20 having nuts 10, 17 thereon for tensioning the studs when the hooks engage the bumper. As an alternative to hooks 20, further hooks 14 may be used connected to chains 13 which pass through T- shaped apertures 12 in the beam. Adjacent hooks 14, 20 may be combined as a single large hook. The pads 3 are resilient and made of natural or synthetic rubber, or nylon.
