A coupling device for connecting a trailer or semi-trailer (not shown) to a towing vehicle e.g. an agricultural tractor (not shown), comprises a hook 2 which is pivoted about a substantially horizontal axis (10), Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), to a mounting plate (13), Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), screwed to the tractor, and which is movable about the axis (10) by means of chains (25), Fig. 9 (not shown), linking the usual lifting arms (not shown) of the tractor to journals (8), Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), on the hook 2, between a lower, disengaged position and a higher, towing position in which the hook 2 engages the ring 26 of a semi-trailer towing bar or coupling triangle; and a locking member 37, 39 biased by a spring (44), Figs. 10, 11 (not shown), to retain the hook in its towing position, and rotatable by means of a lever (40), (41) to allow the hook to be lowered. The locking member 37, 39 is carried by a base-plate 28, 29, 30 screwed to the tractor, and its pivoting is limited by stops (45), 46), Fig. 10 (not shown). A safety catch (47)-(52), Figs. 13, 14 (not shown), is carried by the tractor and prevents involuntary release of the hook 2 by locking the lever (40), (41). In the towing position, an abutment (18), Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), on the hook 2 bears against the tractor chassis (not shown). The chains (25), Fig. 9 (not shown), are connected to eye bolts (23) and threaded sockets (22) of drag links (19) which receive the journals (8) of the hook 2.
