Abstract
489,163. Vehicle couplings. FOULGER, A. E. Dec. 18, 1936, No. 31515. [Class 103 (v)] In a tractor-trailer coupling of the kind in which a draw-bar 3 is adapted for pivotal connection to a single-axle trailer at two alternative points, one in advance of the axle x for forward movement of the combination and one to the rear of the axle for reverse movement, the draw-bar is connected to the tractor A so as to be capable of swivelling about an horizontal axis and permitting the trailer to accommodate itself to road inequalities, while the coupling pins 6, 6a which connect the bar 3 to the trailer are adapted for operation by the driver of the tractor. As shown the trailer frame 2 comprises two arc-shaped transverse bars 2a, 2c apertured at their midpoints for the reception of the coupling pins 6, 6a, which are respectively connected by bell-cranks 7, 7a to a common operating rod 9, in such a way that only one pin can be in coupling position at a time. At its forward end the bar 3 is provided with a pair of spaced arms 3a, 3b which are connected to a rotatable cross-bar 5 on the tractor A.
